Despite a morning of torrential rain and a forecast of gales for the afternoon, Harrow AC fielded their first Senior Women’s team at the SEAA Road Relays since 2015 when they placed 27th.
Happily, the weather came good and it was a wonderful sunny afternoon of running laps around Crystal Palace Stadium. Drawing from a huge catchment area, this race is highly competitive and if you look at the results you’ll notice many top level runners (e.g Tracy Barlow – GB marathoner).
Lucy Ashe (17:40), Nicky Payne (20:42), Bettina Rottweiler (19:30) and Gill Bland (18:58.4) ran for Harrow AC and finished in a combined time of 1:16:50 placing 23rd and just above Serpentine AC.
The ladies posted excellent times, especially with members of the team having run Harrow Half and Richmond marathon only a week previous.
Lucy topped the team-times with a blistering 17:40 which made her third fastest for her anchor-leg of the race, shortly behind the aforementioned Barlow (16:41) and winning team Guernsey AC’s L Perrio (16:59)
No, I don’t know either who the head in hands photo bomber is in the background!
