Southern CC champs

Saturday saw the Southern CC championships held at Stanmer Park, Brighton, in what were challenging conditions according to the team managers report below;

“Our senior men’s squad came a credible 26th out of close to 75 teams. As the scoring team was amended from 6 runners to 4 we were able to field a team having lost some of the squad to illness and injury. On a 15km course with over 1500 metres of climbing, the course was even more challenging than usual as runners contested with driving rain throughout the race.

Damian Nevins placed 36th, well supported by Jim Cooper in 138th running 59:38, Luke Hunt in 193rd in 61:22 and Alan Wray bringing the team home in 277th in 63:52. There were 740 finishers.

In the Senior women’s race, Lucy Ashe had a superb run in 24th place out of a field of 351 runners running 31:39 for the 8km course. Kate Watkins was 317th in 50:07″.
